HTV/DTF Transfer Application

Thank you for ordering your transfers from Threadway Embroidery. Please take the time to read through these simple instructions to help you with applying your transfers.

  1. To prep your garment, lie it flat on an ironing board or other heat proof surface, and iron the area you will be applying the transfer to. This ensures the item is smooth and dry.
  2. Position the transfer onto the garment. Make sure you’re happy with the placement before moving on, as once it’s applied you won’t be able to reposition it.
  3. Carefully cover the transfer with greaseproof paper. This will protect your iron from the plastic, and vice versa.
  4. Using an iron or heat press set to a medium temperature, apply firm, even pressure to the transfer for 15-20 seconds. The transfer and the garment will get hot, so be careful.
  5. Keeping your garment and transfer flat, allow the transfer to cool a little before gently peeling the clear plastic off. Test a corner first to check the vinyl has adhered to the material. If the vinyl starts to lift with the plastic, repeat the application process. You may need to increase your iron’s temperature slightly.
  6. When you have removed the clear plastic, cover your transfer with the greaseproof paper again and press for 10 seconds to ensure the vinyl is evenly stuck.

Notes:
– Check the label of your garment before applying a patch. If it says do not iron, the garment is unsuitable for ironing a patch on. This could be due to delicate materials, or special coatings that do not react well to heat.
– Always wash and iron vinyl on low temperatures and with the garment inside out where possible for long lasting transfers.
